Skinningrove Mine - Cleveland

Ghost Hunt

Saturday 8th February, 2025

8.50pm - 1am

Tickets £35pp

History: The ironstone mine at Skinningrove (also known as Loftus mine) was the first ironstone mine to open in Cleveland. It was opened on 7th August 1848, producing ironstone for shipment by sea to Bolckow and Vaughan’s Witton Park ironworks. The mine's largest output of ironstone was in 1881, when it reached 654,000 tons. In 1896 the mine employed 781 people (676 below ground, 105 above ground) The mine was closed in 1958. Mine work was dark, damp and dangerous. Conditions often led to accidents and miners could easily be injured or even killed. The commonest causes of injury were from roof falls and barring (the practice of bringing down loose stone from the face or roof using an iron bar). Other accidents involved men being run over by heavy tubs filled with freshly mined ironstone or crushed by the horses that pulled them, and there are numerous incidences of men & boys with broken fingers or sprained wrists caused by sprags (pieces of wood or metal wedged under the wheels of the tubs to stop them rolling while being filled).

Ghosts: Boot steps have been heard walking down the North Drift when no one was there. Young boys and men’s voices have been heard around the museum. The feeling of uneasiness as though someone is watching you, has been sensed. Motion sensors have been triggered and EVP caught saying ‘call Nick Groff.’ Will you #daretojoinus for a night of ghost hunting?

Jedburgh Castle Jail - Scottish Boarders

Ghost Hunt

Saturday 5th April, 2025

8:50pm - 1am

Tickets £45pp - £20pp deposit option with remaining balances due 4 weeks before the event.

History: Site of 12th-century castle was one of the strongholds handed over to the English after the Treaty of Falaise to release William the Lyon from captivity, but it was recovered by the Scots. Malcolm the Maiden died here in 1165. Alexander III was married at the castle in 1285, but a ghostly apparition warned of his impending death – which came true when Alexander fell, with his horse, from a cliff at Kinghorn. The castle was occupied by the English after the Battle of Neville’s Cross in 1346 until 1409, when it was retaken by the Scots and demolished, the work paid for by the Crown.  A jail was erected on the site of the old castle in 1823, a Howard reform prison, and the only type of its kind now remaining in Scotland. The prison closed in 1880. Jedburgh Castle Jail is now a museum, with a fascinating display of exhibits relating to 19th-century prison life.

Ghosts: One of the ghost of Jedburgh Jail is Edwin McArthur, a prisoner who was executed here in 1855 who wonders the corridor of the derelict men’s wing intimidating people. Children’s voices have been heard on equipment asking for help and a heavy cell door slamming shut in front of our guests by unseen hands. A glow ball caught rolling into and out of one of the cells was caught on our cctv by itself. This is not for the faint hearted.

History: Annison Funeral Parlour, a historical gem dating back to the 1800s, it is said to be the most haunted building in Hull. Formerly used as the base for the city's mounted cavalry, the building was most recently used as a funeral parlour which closed 30 years ago. From the impeccably preserved embalming room to the haunting mortuary frozen in time, this place is a chilling testament to the past.

Ghosts: The Hull Daily Mail covered a story on one of an associated with Annison Funeral Parlour and the mysterious murder of 18 year old Mary Jane Langley, who had visited the studio of a photographer in the building to have her portrait taken in 1891. This the last anyone ever saw her alive. After she left his studio she disappeared, only to be found dead in Long Lane, Preston with her throat slit. Various people were suspected of her murder which included the photographer himself. It is said that the police investigation was completely bungled and despite one suspect being charged, no-one was ever convicted of the grisly murder.
